Penny Sherman Dresses

I have acquired several 50's style dresses with store tags. They read: "Penny Sherman Dresses, Sherman Shops" also have tags from the ladies garment worker union. I have searched everywhere online, and have had no luck. Anyone know about these dresses and their worth?

Thank you for the link! Here are the photos. Not all of them are Penny Sherman, or have the union tag. Any help or information would be appreciated. I'm positive these all came from the same owner since they are all about the same size and were together when they arrived at the thrift store. Also, any suggestions as to clean and press them?

Wow, that's a great haul! Great prints! Some of them look to be something like house dresses - something to wear at home to do your household chores, but still nice enough to go and do your daily grocery shop in I guess. Others look just like every day spring or summer dresses. I've never heard of Penny Sherman or Sherman Shops, no idea. Maybe a regional chain of shops that invented their own brand? Anyway, a lot of them seem to be marked as cotton and that's what I would guess they all are. Anything made of cotton I would wash them on a gentle cycle with a gentle washing detergent and give them a bit of an iron (better while they're still damp !) and they should come out like new. I love vintage cotton dresses - easy to wash, easy to wear . Are you keeping them or are you going to resell them?

I'm definitely keeping the paisley print! They all fit me, but the tags say size 16 or 18, and I'm a 10 or a 12. If I do resell them, what is a good price? I was planning on wearing the ones with no tags.

That is a perfect example of the difference in sizing, for today versus yesterday. Remember, Marilyn Monroe wore size 16.
It's only a number, and for that era, it is your size.

According to this trademark information, "Penny Sherman," with the sketch of a woman's head, was first used in Dec 1949, so we know your Penny Sherman dresses are no earlier than that.
