Hey!

I have this purse. I don't really know anything about it, any comments would help. These are not the original charms, it was missing, I added these. I'm not sure the era? What exactly is the fabric or technique called? What is the closure called? Can you tell what the metal is? And How should I list this?

On the inside it says Made in France 1003. It appears to be handmade. But I'm not sure. Thank You!

I think the pattern looks painted or printed on, and mostly worn off over the years.

I haven't seen one like this but I'll go with '20s, or maybe Edwardian. When you say you've added a charm, do you mean the little pearl piece attached to the clasp?

I've learnt here that that rose trim on the interior is typically 20s.

It is not petit point, which is a type of embroidery. It is printed as Nicole said.

This is a shot-in-the-dark, but I wonder if the printing, was meant to be a guide for petit point embroidery? but that someone made up the bag, without embroidering it? It looks like the right type of fabric for petit point embroidery. I have a memory that these bags made from kits, even back then, but I'm not sure.

I wondered that as well Ruth, although I think we need confirmation from dhardy that is is printed, as I think I can see stitches (see pic. 4 in maroon), which would mean it is just extremely worn. I think the rest of the picture appears ghostly because the only remaining thread is on the reverse, just showing through a little.

Hey! Yall are so helpful! I'm looking at it and I can see stitches. Its only done in a single thread. Her face seems to have had stitches because I can kinda see the rest of the thread behind the fabric. Just worn off. She looks to have on a white hat too that is almost worn away. I think it may have been printed underneath, but the only place I could really tell is on her face and I think it may be too light/worn to tell. Having said that about the kit, I think you may be right, It looks like it was handmade in some areas, like where the bag is attached/sewn to the frame especially.

Do yall know what I would call the clasp on the frame? You push down on it like a button. Let me know if I need to take a better photo.

Nicole,
Yeah I added the pearl pieces to the hook. There is a little circle hook on the top that was missing the original charm, I added a little bundle of 3 charms to it. I'm gonna try and find a single charm to match.
