Hello! I am on the hunt to buy a petticoat (ideally a repro one rather than genuine vintage) is there any modern brands anyone would recommend?
I have tried out the vivien of holloway ones but i find they are too over the top! Any help would be greatly appreciated : )

Thanksssss

There are a lot of different styles of petticoat and your "over the top" might be something else to someone else - do you have a style in mind? If you can post an image or a link that will help - and it's a pity you don't want vintage because we're all about the vintage here!

My problem with all the ones on ebay is that i dont trust them particularly ( i now have bought four different ones from ebay all of which were awful horrendous scratchy rubbish). I would go for a vintage one, but i have had bad experinece with the elastic in them (again if there is a recommendation on this it would be much appreaciated)
Another problem i tend to find with ebay is the one size fits all rule. Which for me just isnt the case as i tend to wear garments with a 22/23 inch waist.
basically i am just asking if there are particular brands who make good quality ones.

Hopefully that all makes sense!

If I may make a suggestion: it's easy to replace elastic and you can adjust it to the size you need. You can always take it to a dressmaker or repairer if you'd rather not/can't do it yourself.

Nicole, that is definitely true for the kind that have elastic in a "tunnel". Less so if it's elastic sewn onto the top of the crinoline and even less so if it's shirred onto the top.

Malco Modes is who I would have suggested too. Their original specialty was square dancing crinolines and all the MMs I have seen were quite full and short. Good for a certain kind of skirt, not so good for a longer length or one that's merely full as opposed to ultra-full or circle.

If elastic is sewn onto the top, it can be unpicked and replaced - I'm a fan of the "tunnel" style though, and a sewn on elastic could be replaced by sewing on a new tunnel. It's easier to replace the elastic then, when it starts to go.

Malco Modes do a good '50s style crinoline that is longer - between 26-29" depending on size. You can see it here. They have lots of other styles available if you want something shorter or fluffier.
