Picked this Armani cape up at an Estate Sale!

Hello, I am new here and looking to see how to research an item I bought at an estate sale today! It is an Emporio Armani cream-colored cape-coat in great condition. I believe it is from the 80s, only because of the tag. I did find one site that let me look at Armani tags to date it. How does one find out what to list something for when it is not on eBay already? Please give me suggestions on where to start. Thank you so much! I tried to upload the picture, but it says it is too big. Don't know how to make it smaller.

You can use software to reduce the size - I use Gimp (it's free) but there are many others.

Emporio Armani started in 1981 according to the VFG Label Resource - you can see if your label looks like the one there. I recommend that you post images here, including all label images (including care labels) for the best information.

As to what to sell it for, you could try searching ebay completed auctions.

Just downloaded Gimp.org. Wow -- thanks! The tag is from the 1980s, for sure. The inside is satin lining and the coat is wool. It is in perfect condition. I sell on eBay a lot -- there is nothing like this even in the completed listings, which makes it so hard for me to figure out the information I need. Any advice would be great. Thank you so much!

 sigh.....

Gorgeous cape! Sellers don't like to suggest pricing because it's a subjective process. Some sellers believe high pricing is the way to go because price can be part of the perceived value and authenticity of an item, in other words, price too low and buyers will think it's fake. However, if there are no other listings, buyers won't have a benchmark to compare prices to and that works in your favor. I'd do a search for Armani coats in general noting the labels. I just listed a le Collezione coat but for much less than I initially estimated as I found that's a more common label. When you come up with an average price, I'd add on a bit more for the cape style, women love capes and those cuffs are terrific.

Thank you for the pics: gorgeous custardy colour and you can see the quality of the fabric. Are you sure it's a cape though? Looks more like a coat to me - I would date as late '80s as collarless styles were in then.

I agree with Rita on pricing suggestions. For this item I would be inclined to go higher rather than lower but personally, I find coats very hard to sell, unless they're really amazing (eg, '40s fit and flare styles). A lot depends on location for items like coats, I think.

agree, it is gorgeous,

but i strongly disagree with calling it a cape...it has visible sleeves (not hidden by a cape) , so it is a coat, not a cape, unless i am looking at the photos wrong somehow...

I was going to ask the same thing, wasn't sure why it has sleeves if it's a cape. Nicole is right, coats are a hard sell though - good luck!
