Pin/Brooch Questions

Using some of the references suggested in Linn’s wonderful workshops, I’m trying to figure out if this pin has a tube hinge or a riveted hinge. The tube hinge would make it older.

It’s a large brooch with littleforget-me-not type flowers hand painted on. I don’t know what the material is for the oval mound, but the unpainted part looks white.

Any ideas on general era/material?

Hi,

Carrie hit it right on! I agree with circa 1900, give or take a few years either way. I have had quite few of these in the past, all on porcelain.

It may be a home made piece, late Victorian to late Edwardian, when china painting on porcelain and ceramics was all the rage for ladies of leisure. It in no way lessens the value, as the "home made" china painted brooches have their fan clubs too.

It is especially delicate and lovely.
