pink Victorian corset and skirt dating

hello :)

Came across this pretty shade of pink Victorian outfit. I'm quite unsure of the dating - I need to start reading up on the educational books I have. Any thoughts? Also, should I even attempt to clean something like this? The sleeves are definitely silk, but I don't know what the other ribbed fabric is - it feels durable. There are a bunch of stains on the skirt and a few on the silk sleeves. I love how the name of the owner is written inside and the place it was bought.

From my very limited knowledge and research, that sleeve style appears to have been popular in the 1830s and then later in the 1890s and is called leg o'mutton. I would guess it's far more likely to be 1890s. Beautiful details on the construction!

Thanks! It was in a chest with additional items but they were far too destroyed unfortunately. I just loved the color of this one. It amazes me to think of women wearing these clothes around. It's just so far from what we wear today.

That is beautiful, even if it is flawed from age. The name on the inner band of the waist would be the name of the dressmaker, that is the woman who actually made the dress, and the address of her dressmaking shop or salon.

Thanks! Yes, that makes more sense. :) I would love to find a way to clean it, but I definitely wouldn't attempt it myself. I have ruined too many items!

Those sleeve spots look to be transfers from the pearls from being folded in storage. I second Jonathan- don't clean it! It won't come out and the risk of damage is quite high. And it's too pretty to lose.
