Hello everyone! I am so glad I found this forum. I am hoping you can help me date, authenticate and price this beautiful Burberry Coat I purchased from an Estate Sale. The quality of the seams, stitching and the wool tells me it could be authentic but I want to be certain before I resell it. I have photos of the 3 labels. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hi and Welcome to the VFG

Have you read this thread?: http://forums.vintagefashionguild.o...ease-read-before-you-ask-your-question.43417/

You will see: Please remember that the VFG cannot authenticate or price items.

As far as dating goes, I suspect it is fairly recent. I'm not sure exactly when Burberry dropped the 's from the their name, but looking at the VFG label resource I suspect it was in the 1990s at the very earliest. Perhaps others will weigh in on date.

Thanks Ruth! I did read and missed that part, I apologize. I was so excited I found this forum and couldn't wait to post my photos. Do you see any red flags on the coat though?

This forum is a great place, your excitement is understandable!

I am not expert enough to comment on whether there are any red flags on this coat, and I know most people here won't want to be drawn on either confirming or denying the authenticity of any item. I'm not sure whether Burberry themselves might help you?

I tried Burberry's chat line through their website but was told they do not authenticate. Should I delete this and start a new thread? I don't want to violate the rules, I just need some opinions if I should sell this coat online. I appreciate your help!

As Ruth said, we can't authenticate - and that can't really be done from photos either, an expert needs to handle it. The designer fakes industry is very big and some of them, very good.

I agree with Ruth that your coat is likely to be from the last 20 years. As to pinning it down more than that: perhaps look online for a similar style? If you have information about the woman who wore it, you might be able to deduce when she bought it too (eg, she went on a holiday to the UK in '96 or stopped buying clothes when she had that hip replacement in 2003).

Good luck and welcome to the forums!
