Please help date this brooch

My grandma was walking her dog today and found this nice brooch. Such an eagle-eye at the age of 88!

I like the brooch, it's very simple, copper-color and it has a very simple pin on the back. Anyone any idea as on the age of this piece? All I can think of is that it doesn't seem contemporary, but I am pretty much clueless.

Thank you,

I cannot tell exactly with the photo but if a C clasp would possibly be before 1900.
Looks Victorian to me and possibly real gold. Nice find.
Closeups would help.**Edited by Admin.** Reminder. Please read forum rules about posting links before posting to forums. Thank you. VFG Admin.

@foofoogal: Thanks for the response!
Victorian? That would be very exciting!

I took some better pics of the brooch,
it does have a simple c-clasp.
The brooch is about 5,5 cm, 2 inches wide.

any input would be very welcome!
Thanks,
Diane

Diane,

Would you do a close-up of the hinge please? It doesn't look like a really older hinge to me but I can't tell from the photo. It's certainly a pretty pin and has some age on it, but I don't think it's Victorian. Usually in Victorian pins the pin stem extends beyond the piece. C catches are still used today so that is not enough to date it.

Thank you Linn!

The brooch doesn't have a very substantial feel to it:
it feels more like a cheapish fashion item when you handle it.

I agree with 1920's Egyptian Revival particularly after seeing the hinge. It would be mid-20's if my memory serves after the discovery of the King Tut tomb. I have to look this up....

Wow, what are the odds my grandma finds something in the woods that is actually the same age as her? She'll be so excited to hear this, as am I!
Thank you all!

Very nice. Not all Victorian brooch pins extend out but most do.

I would take it to a local jeweler that specializes in antique jewelry.

I was under impression a signature was acceptable. I will read the rules. Thank you.

I think the blog is okay. Friends aren't allowed to link to selling sites, though, like web stores or etsy stores.

I had put a link to my blog. Could clarification be made on this under the rules? Thanks.

Hello, A few people reported your link and it was removed.
I didn't look at your blog, but is it all related to vintage? Does your blog have links to other sites?

Those could be some reasons as to why it was reported.

Thank you. Yes, it does have links to my shops but I guess the terms have changed as I have used the signature to my blog for a long time here.
No biggie. Thank you for the clarification.
