please help date this dress & jacket

1950s - but that collar has me wondering. The centre front doesn't look as elegant as I'd expect - it's almost as if someone has cut it off! Can you tell if the jacket has been sized down? The side seams should line up...if you look at the front of the collar near the buttoned opening, has the collar been shortened?
I'm not sure what it is that we're seeing on the right hand side of the last pic but it looks like it's been altered....is it a sleeve? The side of the skirt? Perhaps I'm imagining it.
It's a stylish ensemble.

Hi,
I agree with Nicole that the top closing of the jacket does look a tad bit odd, as if perhaps something was cut off, maybe not, but it is hard to tell from a photo. I am out of my comfort zone here, but it looks to be just about 1959-1960 to me. It reminds me of a few Balenciaga suits of that time period.
I have a hat with a matching suit, both have the same Razook's label. Mine are mid 50's. Obviously a very high end shop based on their locations. The brown fabric is very nice on your suit, almost like a linen or rayon linen weave.

It is a lovely suit! I think late 50s, and I'm in agreement with Nicole and Barbara about the possibility of there having been alterations, to the collar and to whatever bit it is that's showing in the last photo. Like Nicole, I can't tell what "part" that is, but it looks to have been taken in. Or folded over, or something.
I would guess the fabric is a linen/silk blend. I have several pieces from that time period that have the same look to the fabric--like a linen weave but softer and with the luster of silk--that I've burn tested, and they test out, to best guess, like linen and silk.

Hi,
I am wondering it perhaps there is a part missing from the jacket neckline? So maybe (maybe) it is not that the jacket is cut off, but perhaps meant to be covered up by a bow, chevron, etc? Are there any inner snaps to indicate the addition of an attachment of something? A long shot I know...
