Hi - have a few pieces that I need help dating:

THANKS!
piece 1)
I think this is brass - it has lots of patina and some greening. I'm not sure when it's from (I did 2 little tests on it - magnet - no stick, and I scratched a bit from the inside and it was shiny)

3) And this is a necklace but I have no idea what it's made of. The faceted beads are iridescent and the other ones are bumpy.

Welcome, Tylula,

The first bracelet looks like it's brass. I'm not sure if it's "really" old or made to look that way. It's most likely from the 1940's and is Victorian Revival in style - but someone else may think it's older. The charms on the second bracelet might be Bakelite. Try rubbing them very hard until they are warm and then sniff. If you get a chemical smell they are Bakelite. The necklace is from the 1950's - the beads are probably glass. Tap them with you teeth and then compare them to something you know is plastic - they make a different sound. Glass is also "cooler" to the touch. They appear to have an aurora borealis coating so probably mid - late 1950's. The charm bracelet might be '30's or '40's. Could you show the catch please.

Thanks so much for your response Linn =)

I read somewhere that if you scratch the brass and it's shiny underneath it's more 'modern' - so that might mean it's revival...
The bracelet isn't bakelite - that was my first thought because I love bakelite - but it has no smell and i even did the simichrome test ;) There is no clasp on it though - I got it in a lot of jewellery for repair.

Thanks =)
