Hi,
please help me date my wedding dress. I suppose it can be dated to the mid 1960's. Its a dark ivory colored Bianchi of Boston.
What makes me think its mid 1960's (between 1965 and 1968) is the cut that is still somewhat snug until the waist, its not a complete Empire waist and the very heavy fabric. The skirt part is a super heavy shiny satin and the bodice is lace.
It has a zipper in the back, a long train and small fabric covered buttons at the sleeves. It came with a Juliet type short stiff bubble veil (like this: http://www.weddingideasmag.com/wp-c...-of-wedding-veils-styles-and-trends-1960s.jpg) I didnt use this veil and made my own as I didnt want to go fully Vintage.
I wore a petticoat underneath to give it some fullness.

If you need more information, tell me.

btw the craftsmanship of this piece is also amazing. The skirt part is box pleated on the top and the train is also made like some French bustle type (but flat). Not as crazy as Watteau, much lower.

I think your gown is C. 1968. My sister got married in December 1968. The neckline and cut of her ivory satin gown is similar to yours - high almost mock turtleneck, but her gown was less embellished; lace just at the collar and the skirt was not pleated. Your gown is lovely and you are a beautiful bride.

Let's see what others think but my feeling is 1968.

Thank you so much! The embellishment and the heavy pleating and the fact that its still more an A-line than a full Empire waist would make me tend a little earlier, like 1965-1966ish. but you may be right. I looked at Sonja of Norways wedding dress from 1968 and it is indeed similar, same heavy fabric, though more of an Empire-waist than my dress and also no embellishments and no pleating. Any other suggestions?
Honestly, I have not found an exact match for my dress anywhere so far. It looks like a missing link between early 1960s with the box pleating and the A-Line and the embellishments and later 1960s with the turtleneck, the mock higher waist and the crazy bubble veil it came with.

More input is highly appreciated! :)

I tend to agree with Linn, vintagegirl - wedding gowns are the most conservative of styles, not as prone to reflect fashion trends and often change very slowly. Whilst the style could be anywhere in the '60s, I see no strong features that put it earlier in the decade. It's a beautiful gown, and suits you well.
