Hello-
I'm very unfamiliar with Faux fur. Doe anyone know what era this might be from? It's absolutely beautiful & appears in mint condition.
The Label says: Tyber by St. John made in France.
I can find faux fur from Tyber on the internet, but not by St John too.
ALSO- quick question on the inside of the fur there are two thin straps on one side of the fur. Anyone know what they are for?
HELP Dating this please....
THANK YOU for your help! (I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is vintage!)

The label looks 80's - does it have shoulder pads? and the straps inside are so the coat can be worn cape style with the arms through the loops rather than the sleeves.

Melanie,
Yes the shoulders are slightly padded. :) So I guess it's 80's vintage. (?)Thank you for the tip on the straps. Are you talking about the loops at the bottom of the sleeves? I know they unbutton, but I wasn't sure the reasoning behind it. Do you turn the sleeves into the coat so they aren't flopping around? (I know I sound like an idiot, but I kind of am, when it comes to furs..HA)Hmmmmm I'll have to try and see if I can figure out how to make it cape style. THANK YOU for answering.- I so appreciate it!

Brenda-
Thank you for such a quick reply! All info is helpful. I love this site! Everyone is always so helpful and friendly! THANKS AGAIN!

sorry, I misunderstood where the loops were, could you post a photo of their position?

Shoulder pads would not define the coat as 80's, merely that they were prevalent in clothing in that period, Brenda's article seems pretty specific to me, it speaks about the line as though it is a new product so I would say based on that it was 1995 or later. The faux fur does look very obviously synthetic - it's not trying to be like real fur very much - this would fit in with anti-fur campaigns around that time.

Melanie-
Too Late - I already tried to make into a cape-LOL (wasn't pretty) :)
So here are some more pictures of the sleeves unbutton (actually unhooked) Not sure the purpose of unhooking them would be. Also the ties, on the inside of the coat is only on one side. I don't think they were ever on the other side, because the stitching is still perfect on the other side.
Any help is appreciated! THANKS SO MUCH for the replies!View attachment 7031

Those ties work like a dressing gown in that you fasten them to a loop on the edge of the opposite side, and tie inside the coat, to keep the wrapover front hanging straight. The matching loop may have gone, so look for evidence of stitching or an opening in the seam of the lining/fur approximately where it should be.

The sleeve tabs hold the ends free from your hands, but if it was really cold you can let them down to keep the warmth in, and possibly put your hands together for a covered muff effect. If they don't alter the length of the sleeve when up they are purely decorative.
