This first one was in an ebay lot of necklaces that was listed as 'bakelite and lucite' and the seller said it was bakelite -- but I'm pretty sure it's not - it's pretty light (although it is hollow) and it doesn't smell right nor does it test with simichrome.
If it is vintage it has been restrung because it's on a wire.

Thoughts?

I agree the first one looks like carved celluloid and has probably been restrung. What is the catch on the first one? The rhinestone necklace looks like 1950's.

Thanks ladies. The clasp on the first one is the round lobster claw type - silver coloured. Looks like one you can get at Michaels.

Never thought of celluloid - but now I've done some research on it - THANKS =)

The first one either was, as you thought, restrung - and the clasp is new - or the entire necklace is new and the beads are plastic. If it is celluloid it will have a distinctive odor when you do the hot water test. It will either smell like vinegar or camphor. If it is Lucite - which is doubtful it might have a slightly sweet or floral smell but usually no smell. Modern plastic is usually odorless. Celluloid is very lightweight, slightly flexible and may have mold marks. It "looks" like celluloid acetate to me - see what it smells like in a hot water test.
