Hi!
Do you know what kind of animal this is? The fur is very soft and short, without that gleaming quality I’ve always associated with mink. I figured it was sheared muskrat, or some kind of squirrel. However, in the past, people have suggested that it is sheared beaver, sheared mink, coyote, chinchilla, and even synthetics (I promise, it’s definitely made of pelts).
The label says Ebbe Janssen & søn Buntmager, Storegade 1 Haderslev, so I wondered if it was made in Denmark. Does anyone know if they had outposts in the States? I got it at a thrift store in the US years ago.
It is calf length, with square shoulders, a removable belt, and sleeves that balloon a bit from the shoulders to the wrists, then are cuffed snugly at the wrists. Each chevron row is about 7-8 inches. I don’t know much about fur trends (as you can probably tell from this post!). When do you think it was made?
I doubt it’s worth much, considering how little I paid for it at the secondhand store. But I feel a kind of affection for this coat for keeping me warm so many winters, and got curious about it. Anyway, regardless of what kind of animal they were, I am certainly grateful to these creatures for helping me through some brutal Februaries. Thanks so, so much! I really appreciate your help!
