Please help me date this CD logo handbag

I was hoping that someone could possibly shed some light on this lovely little bag.
Inside I found a few of the old Sperry & Hutchinson green stamps.
It is very heavy for its size due to the silver colored frame which extends the entire way through the bag from top to bottom (as thick inside as the sides suggest). The inside appears to be cream vinyl but unsure if the exterior is leather or not. Adjustable strap and CC or CD silver logo on the front.

Do any of you clued up lovely fashion people have any ideas on the age or make of this bag please?

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.
Thanks ever so much.

Hi Silver Helix

The style of popper on the flap, and that particular kind of adjustable strap with poppers, I've seen mostly on 1970s bags. However the shape seems more 1960s. So perhaps late 60s?

I'm not sure if the C/D is a logo, or simply a decorative graphic motif.

See what others say too.

It's a lovely bag.

Hi Ruth, thank you ever so much for your lovely and knowledgeable response. This is my first post on the website and I am so pleased to have discovered that something as amazing as this forum exists. What a fabulous idea! Thanks once again for your help.

You are welcome, please continue to share your finds with us and ask questions.

BTW it reads like real leather in the pictures, but it can be hard to tell from photos. If you look closely at any areas of wear or damage, you may be able to tell, by what you can see under the surface.

I thought the same as Ruth, late 60's to early 70's, but then I started thinking I have seen matching handbag and shoe sets from the mid 60's like this. The metal or circular motif would typically be repeated on the front of the pilgrim style shoe.

The adjustable strap is a nice touch and combined with the metal trim I think this is a mid to higher end product. I would expect the exterior to be leather though the lining may not be, but its worth remembering that at this time a material, developed by Dupont, called Corfam was in use, which looks, feels and is often mistaken for leather but is in fact man made. One of our trade members, Jonathan wrote this blog entry on it:

Thank you so very much Melanie. Wow! You and Ruth really know your stuff.
I am checking out both of your Etsy shops now to see what other treasures I can find.
I had never heard of Corfam before and Jonathan's blog is super interesting. I think the bag is definitely made of something similar to this, as opposed to leather.
I am delighted to have 'met' you both and discovered this site.
What an honour. Thank you both for your responses and input.
I will be following this forum avidly from now on.
Thanks once again.

Hello ladies, Hope you are both well and enjoyed a fabulous weekend.
I was hoping that I could ask you about another one of my bags.
If you have the time, please could you give me your valued opinion on the age of this ivory crocodile bag of mine.
It is very heavy, fully lined in suede, with gold clasp decorations. The handle has obviously been repaired at some point (quite badly), but I still love this bag as it seems quite unusual. Width 10 inches, height (exc handle) 9 inches & depth 4 inches.
Any ideas on age or origin? Thanks a million once again. Sara xx

i realize i'm late to see to this, but I disagree with the dating suggested on this purse as 60s, mainly as I don't recall that "popper" closure, as Ruth refers to it, in 60s purses: the kisslock was the main clasp at that time. also, the rest of the hardware looks more modern to me, 80s or 90s, and again, that "popper" clasp was more widely used at that time, as well.

Hi there Mary..thank you so very much for your reply. :USING:
Any opinion on the age/origin of my crocodile bag?
I would really appreciate any knowledge you may have on how old it is or if it is indeed albino crocodile skin.
Thanks a million once again.

Just to be clear, I have seen this particular popper in the oval setting, on 70s bags, and also into the 80s, (it is an oval popper, right? Just realised the photo is at an angle so I can't be sure). I also associate that particular kind of adjustable strap with the 70s. I haven't seen either feature on 60s bags, but was surmising that perhaps those features might appear as early as the late 60s, because the styling of the bag seemed more 60s to me. However looking again, I could see the bag as 80s too. I don't see 90s though.

Thanks ever so much lovely Ruth. I dont have the bag with me at work to check the popper, but I think it was round. Will have a look once home and confirm. What a conundrum this bag is turning out to be...could be 60's, 70' or 80's. Do you have an ideas regarding the age of my crocodile bag? Thanks so much once again for all your advice. x

SilverHelix, you've posted the same croc bag on two threads so it's easier if we respond to it on the other one - best to keep just one item per thread, as per forum rules please.
