Please help me date this coat....

Well, I'm back again with another question. I purchased this coat at an estate sale quite awhile ago. My first impression was the 20's but I'm just not sure. It is black wool (it does have a few moth holes). It is lined in what I would call a polished cotton(not sure on this either). It has a strap sewn inside - what was that used for? Thanks bunches for your help!

I think it's just a few years earlier- Late teens, maybe 1917 - 1920 . That combination of black wool and passementerie trimmimg was still popular then. Nice find! I would think the strap was to control the fullness when worn?

Wow, I had no idea what passementerie trimming was. This is going to be an education for me, I think. Is that referring to the tassle trim?? I rarely find anything earlier than the 40's around this area. Can you give me some tips on describing the coat and some good keywords. I'm way out of my element on this one..... Thanks Hollis!

Edwardian Teens Day Coat with Passementerie Trim is a slow start. The cord work and tassels are indeed the passementerie part.

You could emphasize the loose fit and wearability of it - depending on the moth damage, of course.
