Please help me Identify this Sample Cape

cape front.JPGcape numbers in white.JPGcape tag.JPGCape inside open.JPG I picked up this little wool cape a few days ago at a thrift store. It appears to be well made and very detailed. Written on the inside of the fabric it says Sample. It doesn't appear to be very old, maybe late 70's- 80's?? The metal buttons have the crest of a lion and unicorn. The inside is not fully lined, but around the shoulders the fabric has a crest of a single lion. It says Military wool Cape- I'm guessing that means the style??
There is a detailed label that is hand written.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you-

I think you have a costume piece - the writing inside is typical of a wardrobe department identifier and the detailed label suggests it might be for a TV production (hence "Season" and "Channel"), perhaps called Crewcuts? The Season suggests it might be an "06" production, perhaps 2006? In any case, there is a 2006 documentary called "The Crew Cut".

Nicole-
Thank you very much for the information. I'm kind of embarrassed that it's not vintage- but better to know then not. It's obvious I am a newbie. :( My "thing" is hangbags & books- but kind of like the cape thing too. Although most capes that I like- I can't afford... hence why this little sampler find was in my price range. $4. :)
Thank you again- you are most helpful and obviously know your stuff.
Have a FAB day.

Thanks ladies!

VintageAngel, it could still be vintage - wardrobe departments often source real vintage because it's usually cheaper (and more convenient) than making it from scratch. It's nicely made, of a good quality wool - does the belt undo and go around the front too?

Nicole-
You are so Awesome! YES- the belt does come off. (it unbuttons) It also has plastic buttons lined on the inside so that you can button the cape with plastic instead of brass. Which will make the edge of cape sit going towards the right side instead of left. (the picture shows it buttoned up w the brass buttons and the edge of cape sits left) If that makes any sense.
Alot of detail for a costume prop. I never realized there was that much detail in movie costumes..
Thank you again

Film and TV costumes have to be really detailed - I've seen some that are so good, even with fake vintage labels, that it's almost impossible to tell them from the real deal. Sometimes they even use vintage fabrics - when you're seeing it on a big screen, you have to do your best.
