Please help me with a date for this bag

This was the very first item I bought, told by the shop it could be very from the late 20's more likely 30's, every time I look at it I think it could be from another decade. What ever date it turns out to be will not disapoint me I just like to know.

It is 10" long black imitation swede with a small cluster of stones under the catch. No lable or signs of ever having one.

Any thought you have about this bag would be very good. Am I right in thinking it's a everning bage also.

Cute! I do think it is an evening bag and at first glance I thought 40s, but I'm no expert. I look forward to hearing from the experts.

Hi Paul,

It looks 1950s to me and are you sure it is imitation suede...it's difficult to say in the photos.

More info on my bag
I taken a closer look the pile on the body is relatively thin compared to the folds on the end, the body of the bag has some form of stiffening under the outer fabric,
also if I run my palm of my hand over the body of the bag a little black colouring comes off not a great amount but noticeable.
The the strap is just a soft and flexible just the outer fabric made into a tube

My gut says '50s, but I'm not expert on accessories. It will be interesting to hear what others say!

My first impression is late 40s... But, I suppose it could be early to mid 50s, but I would say no earlier than the 40s & no later than mid 50s.

Could it be an antelope suede purse, Paul? I have one that is and the colouring comes off. I found out from Poppysvintage in an earlier thread.

Just wanted to thank you all for putting me right and finding a possable date for this bag which I think is now suede.
it's nice that it could be 50's ish I like the era also.

I agree about antelope suede if its really "shedding". cow suede pretty much stays put

I know the feeling when a book goes missing so annoying!

I have the bag so that's a unexpected starting point all I now need is the now is 40's /50's outfit to go with it.

Well, I bought some 50s dresses in black last week in a nice size, too. Will try to get some pics soon.
