Hello All -
I found this dress by Yves Saint Laurent and am trying to date it. I looked at the label resource, but I have such a time seeing the differences on the YSL labels between the 70s and 80s! Can you take a look at this dress style & give me your opinion? I'm thinking 80s - it's made from flax or linen.

Thanks!
Lisa

I think mid 70s - the colour is very 70s - if it were 80s I would expect it to be black or white, or red -- not neutral beige. Also the deep yoke, side split in the skirt, shirtwaist cut with sleeves gathered onto a cuff - those all look c. 1975ish to me.

I agree with Jonathan, although I'm putting it 1975-1978. Beige was so big during the '70s no one would be caught dead in it in the '80s.

No fabric labels? I'm wondering if it's raw silk, that was very popular around that time too, and the drape is more like raw silk than linen.

Thanks so much everyone! I initially thought 70s as it reminded me somewhat of the safari pieces that I've seen on the web, but the label had me second guessing. The material is very soft, so silk definitely makes sense

My favorite part is the back - it's really a cool dress :)

The design definitely 70s...but I would beg to differ on natural tones not being popular in the 80s, as there were at least a few seasons of safari/animal print that included khaki and tan in the collections.

Ang - I agree on the natural tones, I wore a lot of khaki myself, just that beige was on the outer. I'm sure some people wore it though although I'm still not about to, all these years on.
