I rarely sell anything fur but this was too lovely to pass up. It is a cape and I believe it is late 50s but what type of fur is this? It is short, soft and fairly smooth, & the pieces are smallish.

I did look at every pic of the furs posted and looked at several different fur sites prior to asking for help. I only asked because I am stumped. I didn't see one picture that looks like this fur. I will e-mail her - thanks for the link!

It looks like calf sometimes known as pony. These capelets along with stoles were very popular from around 1953 and were more affordable to the masses. The celebrity glamour and wealth associated by expensive furs around that time made women desire fur.

This is a simple rather plain capelet or very short cape and the fur if it is calf reflects that as it was a common animal.

Stoles can be shaped as an oblong piece in various widths.

I thought at first it might be pony skin but, as I do have personal pony skin items, it feels a little soft for pony. I'd actually feel better if it were pony skin vs some other type of fur though.
