PLEASE Help with Men\'s Jacket - 50\'s? VLV?- UPDATE - FABRIC CONTENT

I bought this last summer and I've put off selling it. Now, with a whole lotta VLV info under my belt, would you say this is a lounge jacket? What would you say it IS? From when?

Nice, isn't it?

I didn't think the RAB mens stuff included lounge stuff.

Any input would be appreciated. I posted this on the private board, too.

Holy cow Janine! That is awesome!!!

You absolutely have a Rockabilly winner there. I can see the likes of Brian Setzer doin' his thang in that baby!! WoooooooooWeeeeeeeeee!!

What's the lining look like and does it have a label??

I'm thinking 50s, Ricky Ricardo performance jacket.

It's gorgeous!!

By the way, tomorrow will be Men's wear day!!!:bouncing:

Thanks, Maureen!

Is it too late to add this to workshop thing, or should I just put it up on the mens VLV showcase? You can use it if you want.

I should get it listed on eBay by Monday night. There are no labels and the lining is a simple black. Here is a shot of the breast pocket from the inside:

Any suggestions for a title, key words, etc? It's definitly 50's, not 60's? It was suggested that the thin lapels made it 60's. (??)

first words that came to me were "lounge lizard"

I had a jacket similar to this last year that did extremely well - good luck
with this!

So, now I'm wondering what this is made of. As mentioned, there are no tags. However, on the inside pocket lining, I found "40L" written on the lining. A 40 Long, is that a size? I'm very unfamiliar with men's sizing.

I did a burn test of the lining and the outer fabric. I didn't notice any burning hair smell, but it didn't smell like a plastic either. Both fabrics turned to a crusty ash, but didn't "melt"

The outer fabric is a jaquard weave. I believe that's what it would be described as, yes?

Any further help would be appreciated.

Nice Dinner jacket, late 50s early 60s. The brocade fabric is probably a rayon or acetate blend. These are getting very hard to find in good condition and in good sizes. Size 40 is kinda small for most guys these days, but the long size is a plus. Should sell very well.

Make sure to put actual chest measure in the listing as well as size. Some guys who look for vintage search that way as well as some jackets don't have size tags in them.

DEFINITELY add it to the Men's VLV showcase!!!

Sounds great!:bouncing:

I imagine this on one of those tall, thin musician types.

Of course, they will have to come over here and model it in person.;)
