Please Help With This Vintage? Antique? Hat

Usually I'm really good with hats but this one has me stumped. It is made of real straw that has been painted black and white with gold edges. Inside someone wrote in gold "Frosty". It definitely has some age to it and has that "old" smell. Maybe it was a costume made long ago for a snowman? lol. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Well...I cannot be sure...looks like a costume piece to me. Sort of like those made in china straw visor caps with the extra long duck bill (brim) that were popular in...I forget...was it the late 1970's or 1980's?

A professionally made hat would have the straw colored or painted prior to braiding it into a hat...not painted on after it was made.

Perhaps painted to match a holiday costume?

I can't help at all with this, other than to say that I love hats with this shape! And it does look vintage--I imagine Barbara is correct on the dating. I was more into the floppy brimmed hats in the 70s, so I don't remember this shape, as much as I like it! LOL....

Yeah I figured it was a costume of some kind. So you think as late as the 70's or 80's? I wonder if I can market it as a costume for a Christmas caroler. It so reminds me of those bonnets people wear caroling!
