Please help with two fur coats - inherited!

Hi everyone! This is my first post. I am hoping you all can help me get some more information about two fur coats that I inherited.

The first is full length, deep chocolate brown / almost black, with hook and latch closures down the front. I was told as a child that this was mink. It was made by Spector Furs out of Arkansas, which I believe closed in the 1990s. The coat was a gift to my late mother in 1999 or 2000. Could anyone provide more information as to when this coat was originally made? Also, there is some slight damage in the left sleeve, on the front right, and on the left side of the collar. This appears to be in the lining, not in the fur itself. Given this damage, could anyone share an estimate of what a coat like this would be worth?

The second coat is much shorter, creamy / buffy colored. I know absolutely nothing about this one. I would welcome any information on type of fur, when it was made, who made it, and what it would be worth!

Thank you all in advance. I really appreciate your assistance! If more / different photos would be valuable, I would be happy to provide those.

Hi there and welcome.
The coat is mnk and I’d date it somewhere between 78-83, somewhere close to there. If I was offering I would mention all, noting and showing all flaws, offer as is, and let the buyer determine the worth.
The pelts are separating at the bottom of one of the pockets from drying out. A furrier would use furrier tape on the hind side to try to adhere back together however the damage would still be there and it would just be a temporary bandaid.
Might be a good purchase for someone who can fix up fur garments themselves, wants to repurpose the fur for another use, or sees the beauty and value in purchasing as is.
The jacket is mink, it dates to the 60s, and the color is pastel brown.
The resale value of furs is very unpredictable right now. You can look at as is mink fur coats and 60s mink fur jackets to get an idea what some are offering them for right now however it is really dependent on the worth the buyer sees when viewing.

Hi Caryn,

Wow, thank you so much for your quick help! I really value your expertise. Do you have any recommendations regarding outlets to sell such furs? I think these are beautiful garments, but I would never wear them myself. I think they would be better appreciated in someone else's hands! I will do some more research to better understand their value.

Thank you again,
AKR

If you offer online, you may be able to have the same success in any of the online selling platforms. You can also share through any of your social media platforms. The more traffic you get to see your items the greater the chances one of the viewers will want they see.
