Pre-60s Dress -- can you help date?

This dress reminds me of the 30s in some ways but I feel like it might be 50s because of the material which seems to be taffeta. Can anyone help with dating the look etc? Thanks in advance!

-- no tags on the inside, collar comes off (attached by metal snap buttons).

I am not sure if what altered though it may have been -- the thread on the bottom inside looks old though and is hand sewn.

The zipper in back has cursive cc which I have never seen before. Attached is a photo and more showing the construction and fabrics.

You're thinking 50s or even newer?

What kind of occasion would this dress be made for? It has all of these little intricacies, a lot of fabric, so I'm just wondering what it would be worn to.

Thanks!

Could definitely be a youth dress I suppose especially with the collar? Does the zipper tell you anything on the age? Would there be things I should look out for to see if it's been altered?

Maxine I think if I'm seeing it right, the 3rd close up photo shows a large hem alteration of some 6" and you can just about make out the edge of this on the skirt in the photo of the back of the dress.

Interesting dress - the style looks early '50s and I agree with Maxine in that it could be a girl's dress - does it have bust shaping? If you share the measurements it will help.

Unusual for a girl's dress to be black though, so I wonder if it was for a funeral if that was the case.

Lastly, the belt is unusual for this time and I wonder if it was made up later - the fabric seems to be fused to a lining, which is a modern technique and the square buckle doesn't look right for this time.

You are all so helpful thank you!

The bust measures 34" and the waist 28". and attached are some more photos to show the details. The skirt on the inside does not appear to have been altered or hemmed but I don't know about the outer portion as it is threaded rather loosely.

And I have come to realize that the collar only detached one one side while the other it is sewn on - could this have been intentional or likely that the metal snaps fell off so sewed the collar on to keep it there?

Still thinking 50s girls dress or newer/older?

That's small but I wouldn't consider that a girl's size. Could it not be a cocktail dress someone added the white elements to so that it could be worn as a day dress?
