Here are a few pics. I'm pretty well convinced this suit is from the 60's or 70's. The zipper is YKK.

It's hand tailored & (If I do say so myself) fabulous. ;-)

Sorry if the pics are a bit large...

The hems are hand rolled. The frogs are hand made. It's really quite the work of art, IMHO.

Oh! Are the flowers chrysanthemums, ya think?

Many Thanks in advance! This will NOT go on eBay. I can use etsy or specialist. I just need to decide which...

Leisa, can't help on the date... These all look so similar in style to me! I recently purchased an estate lot, and a cheongsam was in it. If it wasn't for the fact that I know that it's from the late 30s to mid 40s, I wouldn't know to save my life.

But, I do want to say how nice yours is, and your presentation looks very nice! New manni? Very attractive!

yes, chrysanthemums

that is a very pretty one, and i agree, they are very difficult to date since they have such traditional lines.

i would say no later than 60's, but very likely more like 40's

early 60s on this one, due to the striped weave effect on the inside

I have an early 60s wiggle dress with that striped effect inside, too, but am surprised to learn the stripes are a dating clue for that decade.

Often unlined silk and rayon damask weave ties from the 30s/40s have a stripe effect on the reverse. Not quite as "flat" looking as this, with the colors looking almost too bright compared to the resulting pattern on the other side, but still definite bands of color...

Oh goodie!

Thanks for all the great info & the compliments, too! ;-)

mz_thang has been a member oif my staff since about '04-ish. She was indisposed in Virginia til last fall, right around the time my camera gave up the ghost.

If it ain't one thing, right? ;-)

So - I'm thinking to start it somewhere in the $40 range? What say y'all? I haven't seen a lot of bids on the ended ones on eBay. Or - the 'nice' ones are waaay too expensive for that venue.

Thanks again, everyone!

Well, I could well be wrong about the striped effect, but I do remember seeing that fabric all throughout the 60s & early 70s again and again. I used to frequent a shop in the Montreal downtown core which had all Chinese imports and they had these and jackets with that same weave.

I know what you mean about the older tapestries having the stripe in the weave as I have had those too and still do.

I wish I had an old cheongsam here with me, I do know that most of the ones I had in the past were made of pure silk which was softer to the touch and more supple and they did not have the striped effect in the reverse.

I would price it higher than $40 as it does have the jacket.

It's a really nice outfit, if only I still had the figure for it!!!!

I took a look at the one I have that I know is old--late 30s into the mid 40s. It's pure silk, thin, and does not have the striped effect on the reverse side. It's solid, low sheen (not like the luster of the proper side), and the embroidery stitching shows through all the way.

The striped effect in Leisa's looks like there is a double weave to the fabric, almost like a lining effect?

And I agree with MJ--$40 is too low!!!
