Princess Seams

Does anyone know who is credited with inventing Princess seams or the first known use?

I don't think the seam was invented per se as you could probably find vertically shaped seams as early as the medieval period if not even ancient times. However, the cuirass bodice of the 1870s is, I believe, the first time you see the Princess seamline used so purposefully and dramatically. I don't know for a fact but it was probably named after a Princess, perhaps Alexandra, the Danish born Princess of Wales?
