Printed label?

So when were screened labels a thing? Is it uniquely modern? I picked this up mostly because it intrigued me with the pocket, never have seen just one triangle pocket like that, and I was curious about the maker. Any thoughts on era? It's a mandarin collar with one set of buttons having holes and the other just decorative.

I've had printed labels from the 40s. It's definetly not a modern thing, it just went through phases. I would have said your top was 50s-60s summer casual.

ah ok! That makes sense, it's definitely pajama like material. Yeah I searched out his label and could find absolutely zip on him. & thanks for the era Melanie!

While I do not know the exact year printed labels started, you can find them on garments going back to the early 20th century, 1910's and forward. Not very common, but definitely used. Back in Edwardian times, they seemed to be found most often on lingerie, slips, undergarments, etc. (usually white labels with blue or black print). In the late Victorian era, you can often find them used in hats, (and on occasion dresses and gowns) usually silk screen printed in gold gilt paint onto black or sometimes white fabric.

That is a lovely top, really nice.

Barbara - thank you so much. That's some epicly helpful info. Yeah, I saw the tag, saw the shirt and couldn't put two and two together because I guessed it to be about the mid century but I haven't come across any printed tags from that era. That it's more common for sleepwear/underwear makes more sense.

I'm pretty stoked on the find, the pocket is what got me after the fabric/tag caught my attention. I can't help but wonder...why one triangle pocket? What would you use it for? A handkerchief? & Carla - I just looked up Daniel Sanders and found a set from the 40s with the exact same buttons, so, yay!

You gals are heroes - thank you Lynne! Although I'm not able to click the link for some reason, you definitely were able to find more than me. I kept pulling up Bernie Sanders articles hah.
