Picked up a early 70s maxi dress today and the top layer is made from polyester chiffon. The print almost looks like a photographic transfer/imprint of flowers and fauna, but what's the correct terminology and process?

I'm sure you will all know, so please let me know!

Thankyou!

Goodness Sarah - I've never seen a fabric like that and would love to see a photo of your frock. :) I don't know the correct terminology for the fabric but you've described it pretty well so wouldn't worry too much about it. Where on earth did you get this little beauty from?

Hi Louise!

Went to my out of town upmarket charity shop so cost me over 3 times my local one (they put aside the vintage and they price it up) but I was intrigued by the print and being on chiffon so thought it was worth it.

It's just a normal maxi dress, no great shakes there, so that's why I didn't show it, but will download a photo a little later (my batteries died on me).

This is the maxi dress & another of the print, so if anyone can tell me more about the terminology and print that would be great, the print is on polyester chiffon (sorry if pics big):

IT IS A GREAT FIND!!!! I love the fact that it's a photo print frock and honestly didn't think they had the technology to do a print like that back in the 70's. You see this sort of thing on wall paper and bathroom floor tiles in fancy interior design programmes but I've never seen anything on fabric from the 70's. I'm standing my ground! I love it and I'm sure other gals will too. I'd have bought it. :excited:

Yes, its called a "photo print" dress. I have two blouses and one dress done in photo print fabric. One of the tops is sheer and has this great European castle design. I've always thought they were really cool and pick them up when I see them. Back when I was selling I found a ladies blouse with a New York skyline photo print. (Complete with the World Trade Center buildings which would have been new then)
I should be pretty well for you.

I'm out and about most of today. (Visiting a recording studio of all things!) and then to a BBQ. I'll try and take some pics tomorrow.

Sorry to hijack your thread Sarah.

No worries Connie, I'd love to see pics of your photo print clothing and as I like your avatar, I'll let you off lol. Enjoy your day, sounds fun :sunshine:
