Purse from Vietnam

Hi all. I have this purse, and am curious if I'm right in thinking it's a neat little piece of history (though, most old stuff is...) Maybe a soldier may have brought this back from the war for his girlfriend? Or someone otherwise traveled there and picked this up during the Vietnam war? 60s? 70s? The zipper is YKK. Would you say it looks like straw? Not sure how to describe the material. It has a plastic outer shell. Any input would be much appreciated!! Thanks.

It looks to me like it could be a sweetheart gift from a soldier - 1960s, and it looks like its made of bamboo to me.
