Purse ID?

Can you help me date this purse? And what kind would it be?

No identifying marks...

It's about 9 inches high, 7 inches at the bottom, tapers to about 5 1/2 at the top...

Looks almost like an old bowling shoe carrier, but not big enough...also reminds me of the old plastic Barbie carrying cases...size wise, too small, too!

It's really cool, but don't know how to describe it...ugh.

Can you show how it opens? It looks quite mod, I'd call those racing stripes! with barrel twist lock clasps
the burgundy/tan colour scheme is more 70's but I haven't seen such a 'box' shape before so perhaps somebody else has.

With that waterproof lining, I'm wondering if it wasn't a shoe-carrier, or perhaps even some sort of picnic case? I can't remember seeing a handbag that opens like that.

I wondered about the dimensions; hard to tell from the photos.
That does seem shallow for such a purpose.
Hmmm...

Guess I'll go with the picnic case theory.

I think it's a vanity case, to store your shampoo and beauty products in and yes, agree with early '70s date. Would make a cute handbag.

Maybe the outside pocket is for your hair clips and hair nets?
