Puzzeled By This Vintage Hat

I have this vintage hat that I'm trying to date. It appears to be home made. I have no idea what era it is from. I'm seeing anywhere from the 30's to the 60's. It is made of red velvet with faux fur trim. The brooch and feather appear to be original. Any help is appreciated!

That's that really cheap felt body - the sort they use for souvenir hats at fairs. The rhinestones in teh brooch look like aurora borealis, which would mean it has to date after 1956, so I suspect this was made up as a costume hat for a Victorian look perhpas?

I agree with Jonathan, I think it's a costume hat with no real age on it, maybe two or three decades but I can't see it being older than that.

Just for fun: check if the fur is acrylic, if that's the case it's no older than '50s and probably more recent.

Hi,

Yes, I agree it is probably made up from an old hat, as a costume, with trims added. The jewel looks 1950s as Jonathan pointed out. Also, the ribbons and jewel just don't look "right" from a millinery standpoint, the jewel button just sort of sits there....and mixing low quality marabou and faux fur is an odd combination. Plus the interior sewing is pretty shabby, not done by a professional hat maker.

The hat started out as a simple velveteen (?) 1950-1960s hat. Look at the interior...the material used for the base was not seen in hats made prior to 1948...it is a fabric/material (patterned satin bonded to buckram) used commonly in 1950s hats up through the 1960's.
