Hi there. I recently found a pretty vintage dress with lovely botanical fabric. I believe it is cotton and I am trying to figure out how to date the fabric/dress. Thanks for any help!

Firstly have you checked all the seams of the fabric to see if there is any details printed on it like the manufacturer, fabric name etc.?
My first impression is 70s or 80s home decorating fabric someone took a liking to and made a dress from. The dress style is a generic peasant dress style that featured from the 30s to 70s so showing close ups of how the dress is finished at the seams, finding out whether the thread is cotton or made made (via touch or burn test) and giving the bust/waist and length measurements will help to determine when it was made.

I also believe the print looks 70s to 80s and possibly something that would have been promoted for home decor. I used to make clothes from home decor fabrics rather often...many intriguing and bold prints to be had in that section of a fabric store.

I vote early 1970s on that fabric. My mom loved botanical print fabrics and she had many of them in her home as decor, as well as collecting them. Back in the 70s she had one that looked very much like this print.

I agree it makes a lovely dress.
