This sound a little stupid because it is out of context

I trying to find out when the first tights were worn or invented .. not the 1960's ladies pantyhose/tights.. but the garments worn by men in say medieval times , what were they called is my problem?
if I knew that then I might be able to do some research... putting the word tights into google you can appreciate the response to that I get.
Many thanks Paul

Men in Europe started wearing hose in the 12th century, circa the crusades. But they were worn with breeches. Maybe its because of the crusading/horseback image/culture. Rich people wore fitted breeches and peasants wore blousey breeches. But then the breeches disappeared ashortly later. Everyone was wearing lots of fabric as a result of all of the brocades etc, etc, that were brought back from the east.

Before all of this broke out, men wore pants. Pants were worn by the barbarians/germanic peoples very early on and caught on as a fashion statement in the late Roman empire at that time as a result.

Sorry for not thanking you before Chris, the info has been very helpful and pointed me in the right direction.

I got information overload from what I found out
