Question on cleaning...

Good morning Ladies and Gents!

I have come across a GORGEOUS 2PC Lilli Diamond, I believe is dated in the 60's. There are a few spots on the dress, and both pieces could use a thorough cleaning and as you can see, the cuffs are mink. (I think, please correct me if I'm wrong)

My question is...do I send this to be professionally cleaned? And does anyone have any suggestions on instructions for cleaning? I'd just hate anything to happen to this dress and because I use my resources abundantly on here, I've always had great success on cleaning my garments, or else great luck to get items in such excellent condition, that I've never had to use professional cleaning.

This dress has me stumped! Any help will be most appreciated.

Nadine

It looks like rust. ? You can make paste out of barkeepers friend but I'm not sure how it would treat that brocade as the cleaner is abrasive.
Can you remove the fur and hand wash it yourself?
What is the fabric? Thats a good place to start. If its a silk or acetate I'd send it off to be cleaned.

Hi Nadine

What material is the dress made of and what do you suppose made the stains?

That info would make it easier to determine how difficult it would be to clean.

Oh and by the way, lovely dress!!

Thank you Ladies,

I did the "burn test" and it seems to be a silk or silk blend. It burned fast, smelled like burning hair and left a crispy globule for an edge.

I rubbed the stains just to see if it was rust and they began to rub off. :clapping:

The fur is machine attached but my Darlink does fine upholstery and he says he can remove them, as well as sew them back on, if need be.

Do you think it is possible to sell it as it is, there are no other stains on the dress. I'm just very fussy about my garments??

Thank you,

Nadine

Yep you could sell as is. I don't have access to a dry cleaner so I have to sell as is all the time. Some people in larger cities have access to really inexpensive dry cleaners or ones that specialize in vintage so it all works out :)
Those don't look to bad really. It's a gorgeous set. Is the fur mink? or fox? Looks like fox to me but its hard to tell in the pictures.

MsWyoming,

I think it is fox. I am the worst at fabrics and furs and I seem to come across both far too often for my comfort. :violins:

Thank you for responding.

Nadine

p.s. I'm also not in a big city it is more rural, but it all weighs out in the end because this whole town was once nothing but a retirement community so I never have to travel far to find some wonderful items. :clapping:
