Question on construction of a 50s dress

Hi everyone. I am new here but not new to vintage clothing. I recently bought this dress and have a question about a gap that is right below the belt. While there is some lose stitching at the edge I will repair the rest of it looks intentional? I just want to make sure because I plan on selling it and new to selling so want to be concise and honest in my write up description. Thanks in advance

It's hard to tell exactly where it is from your pictures, but sounds like it's at the front centre of the skirt? If so, that's a common 50s dress construction technique, it's to allow the dress to open up enough to get it on and off. I have a couple of 50s dresses with it. One has a couple of snap closures on it and the other has some thread remains where it looks like someone stitched it up and then removed the stitches. Yours looks to me just like the centre front skirt seam has come undone at the top a bit and may need restitching.

You are absolutely correct and yes I’ve seen this before as well. I just wanted to double check because of the lose thread. I now know why they did that and it makes sense. Thanks!
