Questions about two silk scarves

The scarf with the flags is a very fine silk, clearly vintage .... but what era?

The US flag has 43 stars. Perhaps some kind of commemorative scarf?

The other scarf is MISS Maggy Rouff. Is this the daughter? Would you like it for the label resource? I assume 60’s scarf?

Wow, Amanda, that first scarf is awesome! Well, the 43rd state, Idaho, was admitted to the Union July 3, 1890, but the next, was admitted only 7 days later on July 10 (according to a history of admission dates I found online).

But I have no clue as to how closely the flag's stars followed the addition of states. But I'm thinking that maybe this scarf would have been for one of the World's Fairs in the 1890s? Could it be that old?

GREAT call Anne. I didn't dare hope it could be that old, although it certainly "feels" old. I found

THIS

on Worthpoint. So - who subscribes to Worthpoint? Want to check the sale price for me?

And for the Maggy Rouff piece - Would scarves carry a "junior line"?

I found both of these at my favorite thrift mixed in with the usual polyester selection.

Amanda, I don't subscribe to Worthpoint anymore, but you can do their free trial and get a certain number of price look-ups....

And, wow--I wasn't sure it could be that old, but it sure looks like it is--what a find!

I don't have too much help to add but I wanted to post that I think your scarves are a great find. The one with the US flag with 43 stars is obviously a great piece of history and today being the 10th anniversary of 9/11 is a great way to recognize and remember the building and rebuilding of the United States.

Cool scarves, Amanda!

I have a Maggy Rouff scarf which I would date to the 60s, the signature is exactly the same, minus the "Miss".

The other scarf intrigued me, as some of the flags and country names are unusual, so I looked up a few on Wikipedia. Siam of course is the old name for Thailand, and was in used unteil 1939, and 1945-49. The Orange Free Stated existed as such from 1854-1900 and is today a part of South Africa. Colombia was officially called the "United States of Colombia" from 1863-1886. That all would fit with the ca. 1890 date, given that changes maybe didn't register that quickly at the time. However, what irks me is the Turkish flag. The Republic of Turkey exists since 1922. Before that, it was the Ottoman Empire. I have no idea if the name and the flag were in use before that as such?
It does look very similar to that World's Fair scarf on that Worthpoint page though - you can zoom the picture a little and it seems that one has the same Turkish flag.

It could be that old Anne. I read somewhere that decorations on textiles almost always picture the flag of the year they were made. This is a souvenir or commemorative scarf. Some of the flags are naval ensigns. Siam changed its name to Thailand in 1939 and renamed Siam between 1945-49. I'd like to see the flag for China. Could very well be an Exposition scarf.

The Persian (Iran) flag is also old - apparently only used until 1906.

Turkey is surprising, but although the Republic of Turkey was created in 1923, the name Turkey certainly already existed, as did the term Turk for the people, and Turkish for the language, even before the Ottoman empire. The modern Turkish flag is based on the last flag of the Ottoman Empire - they are very similar.
