Questions on a men\'s shirt - 40\'s?? Towncraft De Luxe

Is this 40's and what material could this be - nylon? It is very sheer and lightweight. Soft to the touch and I think it is done in a chemical plisse or at least something like that. It is "puckered" softly all over the shirt with something similar. Can I call this a "ricky" shirt or is it the wrong decade? Is it "rockabilly" or no? Thanks

Teresa that is a TERRific shirt! i know my dad wore them in the 50's and 60's, but he wore his stuff for YEARS so it could easily be 40's...but not sure.

as far as what a "ricky" shirt is/was, back in the 80's we referred to the elasticized waist/typically with 2 or 3-tone shirts as Ricky (Ricardo) shirts; some now call anything that Ricky may have worn as a Ricky shirt, tho.

i have rockabilly friends that would CERTAINLY be happy with a cool shirt like this; i'd recommend photographing it with a white t-shirt underneath it, too, if you have the time. (i'd show it as you have it, AND with the t-shirt, is what i mean)

nice shirt!!

I found one other shirt with this tag listed as 50's and nylon/seersucker - although I do not think that this is seersucker although it has that look.

It's nylon plisse and I think you're looking at late 50's, more into *early* 60's for a date.

Typically sheers are a hard sell, but yours is different than the standard solid-colored ones so it has potential! I'd steer clear of using of "ricky". In fact, I really hate that KW anymore, as it's so overused and used incorrectly that's it's lost all meaning and has turned really hokey...kind of like what is happening to "lucy".

Very cool shirt, I love it!
