had a load of clothes today from a house clearance....nothing really exciting....... but i have got one blouse but i dont think its as old as i think it is...

with the size labels in the uk..... when did they start using the sizes we know today....8......10...12.....14....etc

instead of the measurement size .... 34.......36.....38.... etc....

its a lovely quaint red sheer blouse ..the label says..

a penny lou orginal... size 14 ..but its more like a 10...

will take some photos when its washed up tomorrow for you to see...

Not really sure as I've have 1960's things with 12, 14, 16, etc and then some with 38, 40, 42, etc. I've even seen 1970's things, some showing either sizing as well.

I think the teen number sizing has had several measurement overhauls over the years which explains why a vintage 12 fits nothing like a modern 12. I'm a Uk 12 in modern clothes but in vintage clothes, the label often says 16 or 18 (or a 40).

thanks lei.....

to look at the blouse it looks like 50's but i have never seen an item from the 50's with the that size labeling.. so thats why i am confused and wanted to know....i am thinking has the style had a revival but is still old.. hope that makes sense.....

will post some photos later....
