Why is this little dog (terrier?) sitting on a curled up book so familiar to me? It is made in Japan and measures 7 inches tall. Thanks!

Thank you Ookoo. I never heard of Asta
before butit is clearly the same breed of dog and very close. And Linda, I was reminded of the pose of the RCA dog.
My parents used to put labels inside their books with art - "This book belongs to ..." and I kind of think something like this might have been some of the art. At any rate, I will use the Asta as a keyword. Now to go find just what type of terrier this fellow be. Amanda

I LOVE the Thin Man movies!! I saw something very similar at the antique mall. It was basically the same design only it was all in deco green. I agree that it was probably part of a pair of bookends.
