Rayon Broacade Robe Japan? 1950s?

~There are no labels in this robe. I did a burn test and brocade fabric appears to be rayon and not silk.
~Large lapels, split at center back runs to waist so probably had matching pants at one time.
~Small shoulder pads inside lining (see image) and I tried to get a shot of lining and seams as well. ~Robe crosses over in front and is secured by a snap. There are also inside ties.
~When I look at the width of the shoulders in relation to the length of the bodice, I feel it's either a bit high waisted or was made for a wide shoulder look.
~Don't know if there's any significance in the fact that it only has one pocket, which is patch style.

Thanks for your help and opinions on helping me date this robe.

Very nice print. I think it's 70's or 40's: 70's from the colour, print and lapels but I'm leaning more to 40's by the shoulder pads, rayon fabric and lining. Possibly earlier but I don't know enough about the use of these oriental prints to say more. In a way it reminds me of some earlier pyjamas I've seen.

If you see the floral robe I posted recently: http://forums.vintagefashionguild.o...n-dressing-gown-wrap-dress-cant-decide.41565/
that had similar ties and would be considered 'wide shouldered' but then I have a high waist and wide shoulders so maybe yours was made for a similar person?

Lol: cross posted with Melody, at least we had the same feeling!

No labels Melody, but I feel it's an earlier piece also.
I saw your floral robe Pincoke in an earlier posting. It's lovely!!!
The brocade fabric is thick & heavy, and shoulder pads are made from folded fabric rather than any type of foam. And lots of seam repair work over the years.

Thanks SE, when you say brocade, is the pattern woven with threads as opposed to printed? It's not possible to see this on the pics above, could you post some bigger close ups of the main fabric? and one of the full front bigger would be helpful as well.

Yes it's woven. Attached is a close up of the front and back of fabric and a larger image of the front of the robe. Thanks Pincoke!

Thanks for your information. Yes pocket is at an slight angle. There is no size tag but shoulder seam to shoulder seam is 17", underarm to underarm is 20" (40"), waist at seam is (32"). Sleeve from shoulder seam to end of cuff is approx 24" and circumference of cuff is 13" There are 5" vertical darts bust darts that run up from waist seam. Would a smoking robe have a center back split that runs from hem to waist like this robe has? Also snap closure is on the left side.

Thanks "StelmaDesigns". There's so much information in these threads I usually "skip over" some detail, also. I appreciate the dating tip regarding angled pockets. With all the feedback, I feel more comfortable listing this piece.
