Hello,
I bought a coat thinking it really was a vintage faux leopard but now I’m not 100% certain. Can anyone identify this as real Or fake and if so what kind of fur is this. Upon some research, this doesn’t look like leopard. Does anyone have an idea on what this is??

thanks!!

So the lippi cat is basically a slaughtered domestic bread with spots? I owned a bengal cat once (3rd or 4th generation I believe) He was indeed spotted and looked beautiful. That's a bit disturbing if those jackets are all from domestic breeds! Mine died very young unfortunately from a rare cat disease. I have since decided never to buy from a breeder. Was heartbreaking.

Lipi cat is just a misnomer for Chinese leopard cat which is not a domestic cat. The spotted wildcat looks similar to some domestic breeds but it has a significantly longer body, the fur is thicker, and the markings are often bolder.

Like many other spotted wildcats it is legally prohibited from being commercially traded unless a permit of exemption is granted.

Bengal cats are a hybrid, created by crossing Asian Leopard Cats, a small wild species (not an actual leopard), with domestic cats. The ones sold as pets should be at least 4 generations down from the wild cat. I think the Chinese Leopard Cat is a subspecies of the Asian Leopard Cat. Sadly hybrid cats often have health or behaviour problems.

as Caryn states, sales of coats such as this are usually illegal or tightly controlled.

The Chinese leopard cat is indeed a subspecies of the Asian leopard cat.

Siegfried and Roy who used to do magic tricks with lions and tigers were said to have been cross breeding them.
There was some uproar at the time because the cross breading could affect their health.

They did not have any ill intent however their show would never make it today, not just for the cross breeding but also because they were keeping and mating wildcats just to use in their shows.

The issue with returning this is that it is not legally allowed to be shipped across state lines without permission from every state it would go through and the USPS too.

You would have to file a claim via the company you used to submit payment and I'm unsure how you would file or what would be needed in order for them to require the seller to reimburse you.
