I like quirky, one-of-a-kind pieces, and just won this fun jacket on eBay for $6. (!!!) It’s blue wool, lined in red cotton, with felt appliqués and embroidery. Some kind of Oktoberfest jacket? The front is fun, but the back ..... well, I'll probably never wear the jacket, I just couldn't resist a low start.

From a Web site that invites questions about German expressions or words:

Kevin,

Can you please translate the following from 3 steins

1. Auf der Alm da gibs ka sund...

1. On the alp (mountain pasture) there is no sin.

with the meaning of 'there is no such thing as a "sin"'

(Note: This is also the title of a very corny German erotic comedy movie from the seventies)

Kind of the German equivalent of

What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas

Uh, too bad I didn't check in here earlier - I could have explained right away ;) - but you guys got it right anyway. I admit I had a good laugh first, looking at the photo :saint:. I've never seen anything like this!
The guy is going in through a lady's bedroom window - that thing is called "fensterln" in Bavaria - "Fenster" meaning window. This "sport" means taking the ladder to climb in through the window into someone else's (usually un-married young women's) bedroom. It's something that usually comes up in bad old German film comedies...
