Recognize this Hawaiian Label?

Does anybody recognize this label on this 50's Hawaiian Sarong Dress? "A Tianette by Tiana Pittelle Waikiki Honolulu".

that print is from the Lureline (or maybe Matson?) ocean liner memorabilia ~

my ex-MIL sailed on the Lureline on her first trip to the islands ~ was supposed to be a vacation, and she ended up living there for years and years...

does it measure like a vintage 14, then? or a contemporary? there are SO MANY knock off vintage inspired manufacturers out there....it has me leary...

I agree with tying it in the back. I just did a search for Tiana Pittelle Waikiki Honolulu and got a number of hits. It appears that she was a designer post WWII. I did check all my books this morning and didn't find anything but there are other vintage garments for you to compare if you do a Google search.

In 1938 the Matson Lines commissioned Eugene Savage to paint murals depicting native Hawaiian life, which were later adapted for menus and other memorabilia, the print is one of his.

i have the "Hukilau" (printed on a tray), another is named "Island Feast", and i don't recall the rest...

part of what concerns me is it looks as though a label were removed ~ see the needle holes behind the label? the muslin lining IS a good indication of it being older than newer, though.

Amber, thought you might like this link, if you haven't run across it already:

I am loving the site with the menus!! Took forever to load all of the images, but fantastic!

As for age of the dress, I am certain that it is old, not modern, no remade. I see the holes now from around the label, wow, could have been a more desirable label of Hawaiian vintage!!! And yes it should be tied differently but sometimes every now and then a piece has to go through the production line in this process twice due to a man doing photography!!! God bless him! (my dear hubby!!) But overall he does SUPER!

Thanks for the links above and the info found. Y'all are Super too!
