Remember those preppy purses from the 80s?

I would love to get my hands on one or two of those purses we probably all had (or wanted to have) in the 80s. They were a wooden handle with buttons, and then you could switch out the purse part, and those were usually reversible. Usually in preppy colors and patters (It seems the one I had was navy with white whales on it??).

My daughters are so into "retro" (gah!) and I've been trying to tell them about these purses...they don't grasp the idea fully, but want to!

Magically, using that as a search term, I now find tons of them. I won't embarrass myself with how many search terms I was trying and NOT getting me what I was looking for. Duh...

Now.. off to shop! Yay!
 
I have one that has a bazillion different covers to it. A few solids I can remember. One has little frogs on it too. I was just going through my stash of vintage stuff to decide what to divest of to streamline for a move - its funny that you mention them. Mine has a handle that looks like rootbeer lucite (but isn't) though, so its not like what you are talking of. I'll have to pull it out again and look at it. I was floored when I saw brand new versions on Amazon for 100 bucks.
 
Yes, in looking around for them, I must say I'm a little surprised at what they bring. I guess everyone got nostalgic for them at the same time I did. It's funny how those cycles work, isn't it. We couldn't get enough of them, then you couldn't give them away, and now... they look to be a popular vintage item.

It makes a person never want to get rid of anything! :puzzled:
 
I know I have at least 3 or 4 of them in a bin somewhere with lots of sleeves. I have not been paying attention and didn't know they were popular again. HUMMMM
