Removing water stains from silk

All my questions in this forum seem to be about staining, I have the worst luck.

I managed to spill rice milk over the silk skirt of this once perfect velvet and silk 1970s dress. I've heard that water stains are damaging to get out - is there any way I can try to remove this at home or should I take it to a dry cleaner?

You can faintly see them in the second two pictures, they're mostly on the (your) right hand side of the skirt.

I think that's what I'll be doing, any tips for the cleaners though, besides finding a good one obviously! How exactly do they treat the fabric to remove the stain?

They have their methods, which I'm not entirely sure of.

The thing is, to make sure that you point out, and have them mark with those little tape strips, each stain that needs attention.

Good luck in your dry cleaner search. The good ones are worth their weight in gold.

Thank you ladies, I took your advice and took it to the cleaners and they successfully removed the stains and it looks as good as new! Now, all I need is an occasion to wear the darn thing!
