Repairing a Vintage Hand Fan

Wow, very talented. Great job.

That is sad though. I once got a piece of glass in a box from a seller.
Nothing else. It survived. How is still a mystery to me. Not even a piece of tissue.

A piece of glass alone in a box? What are people thinking? And it survived? Clearly your mailman is more careful than mine.

The seller said she'd sent several other fans in the exact same manner and they all survived. I find that remarkable, but then, I'd bet the one she sent me had made it all the way to my mailbox in one piece, only to be smashed to bits as it was shoved in by my friendly but incompetent mail carrier. We routinely get other people's mail.

I miss the old guy, Mr. Eller, who retired. He was so kind and careful and thoughtful. Always brought the mail to the door in bad weather. If he brought a package to the door, he brought all the other mail with it. This guy leaves the letters in the box, then brings ONLY the package to the door. Isn't that funny?

Thanks for all your lovely compliments. It's clearly not the best repair job ever... but in the end I have the fan, for now, and that's better than tossing it. It's strange how a fan fights you as you try to work on it.
