Hello everyone,
I'm hoping for some advice on repairing a 1920s silk crepe chiffon dress. The dress is generally in good nick, but has some small (1-3mm across) in a few places. Most of these are across the shoulders, they look to be a result of general wear and tear. The dress is generally in good condition, but is made of fine, sheer, silk crepe chiffon (close up of the fabric attached), and looks 20s, so its not surprising it's got a few holes.
I've decided to take the dress apart and underline each piece in a fine silk, as I think this would be the best way of extending the dress' life as long as possible. It's going to be a job but I think definitely worth the work!
However I'm unsure of the best way to deal with the holes. Should I just use fray check on the edges and trust that that and the underlining will prevent them going further? Or should I try and darn or reinforce them? I do have some trimmings from the hem, of the dress, so matching thread for this.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Harriet
