Bought the jacket about a year ago, at Goodwill, found the skirt last week at possibly, the same Goodwill!! They match really well, but the waist sizes might be too different. I am always sad to see a suit split up!

Oh, that's beautiful! Unbelievable match! How great is the difference between the jacket waist and the skirt waist? I hate when that happens, too.

Curious. Is there a label?

Good eye!

Absolutely no labels. The suit does not immediately look handmade, though I think it is. The skirt may have been altered smaller.

Skirt is about 26" waist, jacket is about 32" waist. Too much of a coincidence for them not to be related!

In my rounds of all the Goodwills in the area, I am always seeing stock rotating. A pair of shoes I saw in Hillsboro ended up at the bins in Milwaukie a couple days later. I decided I had better get them them, before they got completely trashed!

That suit is lovely--the fabric is really nice! Maybe either the skirt was altered down at some later point, as you noted, or the original owner liked to wear sweaters under the jacket instead of blouses, thus the incongruously larger waist on the jacket????

What kismet! Fate!!

My lil' brother works at a GW. His store, and probably others, separates things out as they come in, and then ships them to a main warehouse for storage. They'll collect up a box of H'ween/winter coats/swimsuits, etc as they come in, and once the box is full they'll have it taken to the storage to be brought out when the season is right. They items stay with the store that way.
Perhaps someone separated your pieces, thinking one was more this season than that season. It's just fate that you walked in on the right day!

I wish I could get into their Halloween stash!! That's when I find some of the best vintage.

Monterey was better though, that's where I found most of my designer pieces, and flapper dresses!
