I adore this dress. It is probably the most romantic one I have. And yes, I have attached way too many photos, I know! But who would like to help me describe it???? Which one for the gallery shot???? I am kinda liking the last one for the gallery photo. I have never featured an auction before. Do you think I should feature this one????

It's sheer deep blue silk organza with swiss dots. 3 layers - lining, crinoline & outer. Check out the velvet bow! Label reads Mercia Couture London. I haven't done any research on it yet.

There are different schools of thought on featuring...is it something that is special/unique but not something people would normally search for? and do you have a lot of other auctions up that people might be interested in to check out if they like the featured one?

I could see someone wearing this for the holidays..

That's Lovely Maureen, and I have done well with this style. Personally, I don't feature much. If you go that way, be sure to do it when you have alot of other items up and it can guide people to your other auctions.

I like the second shot myself - striking image.

One note is that on my monitor, the strong pink is making the blue read black and is dominating the dress. Perhaps a softer background color to enhance the romantic aspact? a paler pink? a soft pale blue?

Such good advice. Thanks Chris and Hollis.

Yes, I agree about the photos being dark and too pink. I did them late, late, late last night (more like early this morning, try 4am) when I couldn't sleep. Today I am able to see just how 'off' they are!! I am going to redo them.

Thank you especially for your thoughts on featured items. As I said, I have never used this option and just the cost frightens me. Since no one on this or the member's board is very enthusiastic about featuring it, that solves that issue for me!

I will post a revised pic when it is done.

Thanks so much ladies!!

I have revised the above photos. They are now lighter and so is the background. Do they look better now???

Thanks ~ Maureen

Have you done any research on Mercia Couture of London? I have just found a dress too.

I think there may be a broken link to the photos. All I see is question marks.

Patricia...

Click on THIS to see an article about Mercia and Co. Further along in the article you will see a reference to the custom/bespoke Mercia gowns, which may have evolved into Mercia couture.

I also found a 1962 (US) wedding announcement that noted: "...the bride wore her beautiful "Miss Mohair" coronation gown fashioned by Mercia Couture of London, England."

Finally, I found this in a 1936 British Industries Fair publication:
