Roberto Francini -- any clue at all?

Has anyone ever heard of "Roberto Francini" ? I have a beautifully made dress (will upload photos if anyone is interested) -- basics are:

cream wool gabardine,
set-in waist w/pleating at front of just-below-knee straight skirt, single vertical seam detail down bodice,
jewel neck,
deep dolman bracelet-length sleeves,
unlined,
metal back zip w/hk&eye
lace hem tape,
pinked int. seams.

It's VERY elegant and simple (and for the wool-sensitive - itchy!).

The only "tag" of any sort is on the selvages -- "ROBERTO FRANCINI 100% PURA LANA." So, it's pure wool and it's Italian. But who IS this guy? I can find absolutely NOTHING on the name.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Please show us the dress. Even if we have no idea who Roberto Francini might be, we always like to see lovely vintage pieces. If the name is on the selvage maybe Roberto Francini is the name of the mill where the fabric was made.

Overview w/ dress clipped to mannequin -- dress is MUCH too big on Lola. Also, it looks short on her, but she's 6' tall. On me, 5'6" if I stand up REALLY straight, it's just below the knee.

OK, not sure what to do about this photo situation. Made the image much smaller, and rotated it, but it still comes out huge and now fuzzy, too. Will have to work on them and try again... SORRY for inconvenience. If you are able to delete the bad photo, please do! I don't want to clog up the forum with my stupidity.

No idea why previous photo posted sideways. I rotated it on my computer and it shows vertically in every software I used to open it.

Here's a shot of the interior -- waist stay, selvages, seams, tape, zip, everything of interest in one shot.

I resized it for you - lovely dress!

At the top right of the post is an Edit Post button. You should delete the post where with the photo that is so large. It's "stretching" the Board. You'll see the option to delete it when you click on Edit Post.

Thanks!

Thank you, Linn. What did you do to resize it? I'd already shrunk it down significantly on my own computer, but it didn't seem to help, nor did rotating it. I can't seem to get the hang of this site. For one thing, these blinking smiley faces are about to drive me to distraction. I've click "Disable Smilies" about 100 times. Doesn't do a thing. Not a vintage question... but a sanity saving question...

Yes, thank you! I had meant to delete it but couldn't find the button among all these jiggly wiggly smiley faces. I appreciate your assistance! What do you make of the dress? Perhaps a dressmaker, or far better home seamstress than I, using "Roberto Francini" fabric? I had to darn a hole in the upper arm. Let me show you...

I did it in Photoshop Elements. The original size was something like 24" wide - I made it 6w" x 8h" or something like that. When I take photos with my digital camera they are always "huge" when I download them and I always have to resize them before I use them. I use imageevent as my "image host."

I didn't like the smilies at first, either, but they grew on me! Sometimes they are the perfect touch to express exactly how you feel!

Again, welcome to the VFG Forum! Your dress is stunning and you photo of the interior is very, very good.

Thanks again, Linn. You know that is PRECISELY what I did to the photo (not in PE, but in another package). I reduced it from 24" to what should have been about 3x5. Guess for some reason it just didn't "take." I will preview in the future, to avoid another such blunder.

As for the 2nd photo, I have to admit I was impressed with that one, myself! The camera is an inexpensive point-and-shoot digital (Samsung). I've found it takes really good close-up shots.
